The Green Wolf

Be aware that this Tumblr frequently includes pictures of art made with animal remains, as well as rampant feminist opinions, corgis and bats, and lush landscapes.

Artist, author, (neo)shaman, and wannabe polymath living in the Pacific Northwe(s)t.

I discovered neopaganism in the mid-1990s, and shortly thereafter began my work with animal totems and neoshamanism. Over the years I've wandered through various paths, ranging from Wicca-flavored neopaganism to Chaos magic, but for the past few years I've been creating Therioshamanism, a post-industrial neo-shamanic path. I've also been creating various neopagan ritual tools and other sacred art from hides, bones, beads and other such things since about the same time. And I've written several nonfiction books on totemism, animal magic, Otherkin, and related topics.

A few places to find me, as I'm all over the internet:

Ask me anything

I’m not really one to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Part of it is the commercialization and the pressure to “do something”, but also because I feel that a day to celebrate my relationship(s) is redundant, since we do that every day.

But early this morning, around 1am, I was coming back from a trip to the 24/7 postal kiosk, and stopped at a QFC that was open. I bought soft apple cider, as I’ve been craving it a LOT as of late. And while I was there, I bought my partner a single red rose—sure, it’s cliched, but it has meaning for us.

And so I thought that was as far as it would go, because we do little things like this for each other all the time. But then this evening, around 5:30, he asks, “Hey, you wanna go out and do something, like go see a movie?” And I say “Sure!” So we headed over to the Hollywood theater and grabbed tickets to the Oscar-nominated animation shorts, and then dashed across the street to Magnolia’s, the little coffee and wine shop where we had our first date, and had a quick supper before the show started. And then the show, and then back to Magnolia’s, and then I ran over to the Rite-Aid and got discounted Valentine’s chocolates because discounted chocolate, and hell, it’s Valentine’s and five bucks for a box of Russel Stovers’ is awesome. And an evening chatting with the folks at Magnolia’s, and giving one of them a ride home since she missed her MAX ride.

And it was this entirely, ridiculously spontaneous thing where we had the dinner and the movie and the rose and and the chocolates, and absolutely none of it went the way it’s supposed to be all planned out, but it all went fantastically anyway, with much love and joy and laughter.

And thankfully that doesn’t just have to wait for one day a year.
